Now Open Payments API

PaymentsAPI.com, a blog powered by IP Commerce launches today to further the conversation about payments industry innovation, API strategy and working hand-in-hand with software companies, developers and their clients to solve complex payments industry problems. The advancement of technology and software has created many opportunities and challenges in innovating on a decades old industry infrastructure.

Ever since PayPal delivered their open developer community in late 2009, not a week goes by when there isn’t an announcement about various companies or networks opening their platform and APIs to developers. Opening API access and company acquisition are some of the API strategies materializing in the market for companies to compete and stake their claim to payments innovation.

With the prevalence of open platforms and open APIs increasing, old models and methods are making way for new.  We know PaymentsAPI.com can be a great resource for those in the industry to learn from our experience and answer questions on how APIs and an API strategy can deliver efficiencies to all participants in the payments ecosystem.

“Not everyone who wants to or can do an open API or integration Lab will succeed. Developers don’t have unlimited time or resources and will not create applications for every platform.”
- Alfred ‘Chip’ Kahn, CEO IP Commerce

For example, when researching a payments integration there can be many questions that developers and companies may have before even getting started; whether a new payment solution or updating an existing system. How do I get attention from my service provider? What should I look for in a payments API? Can I decrease support through software? Is there an easier way to board new merchants? Where do I fit in the PCI compliance picture? How can I best support multi-channel integrations or multi-service options with limited development resources?

There are many questions to explore. This is a huge industry! As the future unfolds we look forward to initiating this conversation with you, our readers, on how working with developers, software companies, payment processors and service providers is mutually helping ecosystem participants today. Our goal is to foster conversation addressing the innovation in the payments industry and we invite you to participate by sharing your thoughts.
